✅ It's official: legal charter of List 7 boats comes into force

⚓ A new era for recreational boat owners

After months of waiting and rumors, it’s official: from August 15, 2025, you can legally charter your List 7 boat for a limited period, thanks to the approval of Royal Decree 339/2024 and the publication of the final procedure by the General Directorate of Merchant Marine (DGMM).

This is a historic change in Spanish maritime regulations that opens new opportunities for private boat owners, allowing them to monetize their vessel during the months they don’t use it… 100% legally.

📜 What has changed?

Until now, chartering a private use boat (List 7) was prohibited. But with the new regulation:

  • Temporary change from private to commercial use is allowed, for a maximum of 3 consecutive months per year.
  • A clear procedure has been established and published on the DGMM portal.
  • Many barriers are removed, making it easy for any owner to generate income without needing to register their boat in List 6.

🔧 Requirements to charter your boat with Zarpar

To benefit from the new temporary dispatch regime, you need to meet the following requirements:

  1. Your boat must be on List 7, with valid seaworthiness certificate.
  2. Pass a technical inspection (ITB) equivalent to list 6, even if you already have valid certificates.
  3. Have liability insurance and personal accident insurance.
  4. Establish a naval management contract with a nautical charter company (like Zarpar).
  5. Process the temporary dispatch request with the Maritime Authority, at least 48 hours in advance.
  6. Accept that neither the owner nor their relatives may operate the boat during this period.
  7. Dedicate the boat exclusively to nautical charter (not tourist activities or excursions).
